I have never had a fortune feel like it was written solely for me until this fortune. I pulled it out of a cookie the night my friend Amy took me for sushi for my birthday. It was one of those reaffirming ah-ha moments where I realized finding beauty out of the ordinary is what I love to do. Watching life unfold around me and capturing those moments is the driving force behind my photography. The best part is, with my family, I will never run out of things to document.

case in point:
A few weeks ago I found Bella reading to Megan after school. It was her way of spending time with Megan and getting her reading done at the same time--so she says. I, for one, am grateful I heard mumbling down the hall and stumbled upon this scene. I know when they're older and Bella is busy with friends Megan will love having proof that Bella spent time with her. And of course the umbrella just makes it that much sweeter for me. The funny thing is I can totally see us talking about this photo in twenty years and Megan asking what she was doing with an umbrella. I'd like to think she was staging the scene, that she knew I would be coming with my camera, but using it so randomly is just Megan's way--a little bit quirky, a little bit loud.
I'm so grateful life is chock-full of stories like these to tell.
you find beauty in ordinary things. do not lose this ability
i pray i never will.

Your girls remind me of my sister and me. There's nothing like sisters—I love seeing sisters who are friends. Love it.
oh, I love this. I remember thinking how perfect that fortune was for you. I love that it's coming back up a few months later.
Megan is a riot. Her randomness comes from you, G. Little G....that's her.
I think this is one of the reasons I love your photos so much. They are uniquely beautiful, because they are pictures of ordinary things, everyday life that we sometimes miss. One of my recent favorites is the picture of forgotten chalk. It seems like this normal boring thing, but your photo makes me think-- which of your kids was out drawing? how did it get lost? Were they chalk drawings of sunsets, with just a hint of pink? I love the way you see the world.
love the lesson
love the photo
love the everydayness
