better days

[shopping for bella, 14 march]

These two have been sick--coughing, fevers, sore throats, all around down and out. Needless to say it has been really quiet around here, and while I admit to it being nice for a change, I miss the noise they bring home with them after a busy day at school.

Hoping tomorrow brings better days for them.

monday miscellany

-It's been a cleaning day today. Love Mondays.

-I never mind cleaning days when I'm listening to a book. I've been listening to Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese. I started it last summer and never finished, not sure why. I'm quite enjoying it today.

-Bella had a birthday party at the local rec center Friday after school. The highlight of the party for me was when the 7 year old named Dillon crashed the party. We were passing out pizza to all the girls when I noticed a strange boy sitting at the table ready and willing to eat. I asked him if he was suppose to be at this party and he said, "Yes, my mom dropped me off". I was laughing so hard about it I just couldn't kick him out, plus he was so insistent that he was suppose to be there. It's funny, it took a long while for Bella and her friends to notice him. Once they did they asked him if he was going to a girls or boys party. He said, "boys". As soon as he said it you could see something in his brain click. He scanned the room and realized it was a "girls" party. His face went bright red and ran out of the room. Good thing he got his fill of pizza first.

-Nothing like letting the fresh air in to help clean away the weekend. I am savoring these spring like days while they last. I hear it's suppose to snow tomorrow. :(

-Now that I have 3 hours a day to do my shopping when I need to take kids with me it's a wonder how I was able to do it all those year.

-I was sent the WC brochure in the mail last week. I have to say it was pretty creepy/crazy seeing my name in print, however, I am feeling a little more excited about it.

FYI for those of you who want to come to my class and my class only. I found out that unless you purchase a ticket through me you will need to purchase a day ticket which is $25. I am more than happy to get you a ticket for my class only I just need you to 1) email me, including your name and address & 2) send me $9 before March 31 (I will send a reply email letting you know where to send money). The tickets will be mailed to me and I will send it by mail to you. Now I don't believe these tickets guarantee you a spot. I can't imagine the class will fill up, but I know if it does they won't let you in so allow time for parking/walking.

spt - 100 list #21

#21 I have a hard time spending money on clothes.

Yes it's true, I have a hard time spending money on clothes. I've never been a big shopper, but there are times, like when I go in my closet and can't find anything to wear or am going on vacation and just want something new, that I'll venture to the mall, but for the most part it's not something I do.

If I do find myself shopping, this is where my spt comes in, I loath spending top dollar for clothing. I don't own designer jeans, though it would probably be smart since I wear jeans all the time, because I just can't seemed to get passed the price tag. I try not to go into stores like Nordstrom unless I'm looking for something specific. Logic would tell me if I spend money on clothes they will last me a long time, true for jeans, but clothes go out of style so quickly that I'm better off spending $15/$20 on a trendy shirt, wearing if for one season, and feeling ok about the fact that it's falling apart.

Of course there are those times when I find a piece of clothing I love so much the price tag doesn't even matter or find an item considered as a wardrobe staple (ie..black pants or a white tailored shirt), and yes, for those types of situations I will usually splurge, but normally I look for bargains.

Finding a bargain on a shirt and still feeling cute...well how can you beat that? Ok you can, but you know what I mean.

loving right now

1. New Organizer

I have been looking at the organizer from Pottery Barn for so long and I almost gave into it until I saw this organizer by Making Memories. It holds a ton and has done it's job by organizing the top of my messy desk...hopefully I can keep it that way. :)

2. Monday Night Shopping

We had planned on going out as a family Monday night as part of our FHE, but by the time it came around both Adam and I had had enough of the day and were worn out. I wasn't super excited about going out, but I know Bella wants a dress for her birthday/baptism and Easter is coming up so we at least needed to go out, so we did. I must admit I went into it thinking it would be a piece of cake, one trip to Dillards would do the trick, but as it turns out it was more of a challenge. There just weren't as many options as I thought there would be at a mall with multiple department stores and several chains this time of year. So after a couple hours of looking and buying a few new shirts for myself (yes I bought a bit of happiness...love that) we decided to go home and go shopping another day. Sometimes I just really hate shopping. No, let me rephrase that. I enjoy shopping when it's for fun, but when you're out looking for something specific I swear it can never be found. At least I had a good time hanging out with Bella and that I do love.

3. the book that took me 2 months to read

I finally finished The Book Thief. I started back in January and sadly I didn't read anything in between. It was a combination of working on my mom's book and yw that I didn't have time to read or I should say I didn't find time to read. Anyway, I loved it and would recommend it to anyone. It is a story about a young girl living in Nazi Germany narrated by death. I know that sounds a bit strange, but it actually gives it a bit of charm (if you can say that). It was nice for a change to get the side of the Germans and get a feel for what they went through as well...war is hard on everyone. Definitely put this book on your list of books to read this year.

4. Three cozies

Finding them asleep altogether...is there anything better than that?
