A handmade book that enclosed 13 10x13 inch envelopes to hold all the papers and memorabilia I want to save. The project I saw was for one school year (an envelope per month), but I chose to do one envelope per year, so I only need one book per child for all 13 years of schooling (K-12). I know that means I won't be able to save it all, but that's the point. I only want to save the most important things. If there is an art project that won't fit in, as I know there will be, I'll most likely take a picture of it and just add the photo. If I feel it deserves to be saved I'll put it in a box I have designated for each girl.
I probably should have waited to show you what I've done as I'm not completely finished, the covers need a label, I need to buy some book binding tape for the spine, and Bella needs to fill in the missing info from the past two years, but I just couldn't wait. I'm really excited about this project, the organization. I hate piles and right now that's exactly what I've got so these books are absolutely perfect. It's also a great way to use the school photo you just don't know what to do with, but want to order for history sake...well at least that's why I get them.

WOW. This is exactly like what I want to do. Love it and that I have plenty of time to get it done before they start. Brilliant.
That is a great idea. I have been tossing around different ideas for how to handle the school albums. I do order the school photos just for the historical value, and I think you have to severely limit the amount of papers and art projects that get saved! I especially love Tess's book!
Yes. YES! Will make these... just exactly what I have been looking for! THANKS!
This is a terrific idea!! Where did you find the large pieces of chipboard?
What a great idea and these are so cute. I love them, but I have to say I am impressed on how you were able to follow directions. I am looking at them and dont' know if I completely understand them. But I will definitely give it a try... thanks for sharing, you always have great projects.
Thanks for the tip. I have all these school projects and have been wondering what to do with them.
Oooh! These are genius! And yours turned out so cute. I will definitely have to do this. So nice to have everything in one place. Thanks for sharing!
This is perfect! And possibly easy enough for me to handle actually finishing. Now when you're finished I want to see it again.
This is excellent! I had a book like this growing up (only it wasn't stylish and cute like this, but the concept was the same) and I loved it. I have no idea where it is now (that's kind of upsetting) but thought it was cool to have see my evolving handwriting, pictures, report cards and all of that. I want to do this too.
Stefanie I bought the chipboard from Reuels, but I know you can also get it online at several stores like papersource.com.
Angbrimwil the directions were easy for me to follow because I've made books before, but I would be happy to better explain how to do it. Email me.
That is brilliant. I will definitely be making some.
I love this idea as well. I struggle with what to save for my children. They each have a Rubbermaid-type sweater box where I stash papers and I take pics of or scan much of Luci's art.
Imagine having a high school graduation party for your daughters with the special book you added to for 13 years on display! That's what came to mind when I saw these pics of your project. (That's me, already concerned about how to decorate for a graduation party when my oldest is only in 1st grade . . . )
I have books like these for all my kids, but I bought them online. My kids love having all their stuff in one place. Yours turned out so cute, and I bet they were way cheaper than the ones I bought!
ok, the idea of doing an envelope a year is something i can get behind. for some reason i hadn't understood that when you first told me about them. they are so cute! i will definitely be doing this for my little ones. thanks for sharing!
Love THIS! Love the colors, the idea, all of it!
Can I place my order now?
That is amazing... no surprise. I love that idea. I have loads of papers and drawings and things that I don't know what to do with! I don't know about there, but here you get a scrapbook at the end of each term! I don't want every single project. So I have 4 books from Austin last year and just one from Olivia's school but it's still too much. I love this idea. I will definitely be copying it. Thanks for telling us.
Well I join everyone is saying that this idea is fantastic. Now, are you going to be making extras to sell? Always, you do beautiful work!
Hello! I found your blog through Kim's and HAD to comment on this post!
I LOVE these books, such a great idea! My oldest is starting Kindergarten, so I have been wondering how to organize things now and not in five years!
Thanks again for sharing, this is exciting for me! :)
A seriously brilliant idea.

I need to get moving on this for my oldest going to kindergarten on tues! -elizabeth
Wow! What a great idea! I have been looking for a solution for my little kindergarten's work!!!
I am a peaker at your blog and this is so awesome! Thanks for sharing! I only have a two year old but always looking for new things to create!
PS how did you get the words onto the envelopes for the year and all that? Did you just run it in your printer?
Thanks again
nettifer yes, I ran them through my large format printer.
Thanks for the link Amy, really creative and just the idea I've been looking for :)
This is great - I have a file folder and a box and a binder for my son's school work, but it I'd been thinking I needed a more central location for everything. I can't wait to start this! Thank you!!
