loving right now
Mormon Channel
I downloaded this app on my phone when it first came out and used it to listen to conference talks and even the Ensign. It wasn't until a few months ago that I started listening to the actually radio and discovered all the fabulous programs they had available. I listen to it everyday now--when I'm getting ready, cleaning the house, driving, working on photos, etc. I have come to love the spontaneous messages that come up as so many of them are ones I need to hear. It is available at the apple store free and I know it's available for other devices as well. Check it out.
apple TV
Recently Adam and I both discovered we were going to give the other Apple TV for Christmas (long story). After laughing about how funny that would have been to exchange the same gift (and him telling me he wouldn't have wanted it--nice), I walked into my closet, pulled it out of it's hiding place, and started setting it up. Since the cat was out of the bag I figured apple TV, as a gift, was off the table so why not enjoy it now--and enjoy I am. Last night I sat on the couch while the girls danced to music (controlled through my iphone) and watched my photos randomly stream from my flickr account. We were so caught up in the memory of each one saying, remember when..., I couldn't believe more than an hour had gone by. I must add, it sure didn't take long for Adam to appreciate the awesomeness that apple TV is. Once I got him acquainted with everything he could do with it he was, shall I say, hooked. Turns out, not such a bad gift after all.
the lights
I think it's been well established, for better or worse, that I lack patience so it should be no surprise that yesterday we succumbed and started decorating the house. I know it's a little early, ok quite early, but we were all in agreement--it had to be done. What a delight it was to come from church with the lights and glow of the holiday season. I know some think it takes away from Thanksgiving, but I think it's the perfect accompaniment to both holidays. We're loving it.

the snow
The snow not only helps create the holiday mood, but it allows the kids to get out of the house and stay active. I never thought of it like this until yesterday, but my girls won't go outside in the cold unless there is something pushing them to, and snow is the perfect excuse. They spent a good portion of the afternoon sledding down the hill across from our home and came in exhausted and ready for a low key evening.
holiday messages
I bought a bag of dove dark chocolates for our advent calendar and am ashamed to say the bag is almost gone. I've enjoyed the messages on the inside of the packaging as much as the chocolate themselves. Guess I need to go buy a new bag. I think I'll wait till next week so there isn't near the temptation.
the fire
Our fall wasn't as cold as it has been in the past so we haven't had a lot of fires up to this point. Tonight after much convincing from the girls, we enjoyed the warmth and mood that only a fire can provide. It definitely has a way of drawing everyone together and we spent the evening hanging out in one anothers company--well that is until I had to leave.

Have i told you lately about my husbands obsession with urban living?
I don't know why it was such a surprise to me when he first expressed his desire to move downtown, we were very fond of living there when we were first married. Adam is not one for convention and the fact that everyone else with families are living in suburbia is just another reason to stay clear of it. Right now, I think he sees all the good stuff happening, the changes, the development, and he is so draw to the movement of a city. I loved it when we lived there and I don't have a problem with going back, but I'm not so sure about it now when I have three young girls. I don't know that I want to raise my children in the city, not that there is anything wrong with it either way. I suppose living in a home with a yard is all I know and I long to give my girls everything I had--again the exactly reason for a change he would say. I think I'd have to do more research, talk to people, families, who live there and assess. Chances are though, when we do move downtown, it will mostly likely be when Megan is out of the house.
At any rate, I do enjoy the city. Adam and I go quite often when we're out together or with the girls like we did the other night. We were actually there Friday night to see the film Certified Copy, which I must say produced more dialogue between the two of us then any one film has in ages. It's an artsy film, mostly subtitled, pretty slow, I mean it's basically two people meandering around a small village in Italy having a conversation, but it's packed with life, relationships and how we all see the world differently. We both found it quite interesting, and so, on our way home we discussed, and while we discussed we walked and then drove the city streets, and I couldn't help but enjoyed the array of lights surrounding us that only a city can provide.
A city is many things, but dull is not one of them. If you look you will see it's full of color.

all aglow
Our annual walk through Temple Square....
We were pleasantly surprised this year that it wasn't as busy as it has been in the past. I think the ominous rain kept people away even though it really just sprinkled for a few minutes. Too bad it wasn't snowing--it's been strangely warm for this time of year. We couldn't have asked for a better night, or company, to roam around enjoying the lights.
**What are some of your holiday traditions?

christmas tradition | temple lights
The temple lights in something we do every year or have tried to do since we've had children. When I was a little girl my mom and dad had a picture of the temple lite up with Christmas lights and I would look at it all year long so excited for the chance to go and see it in person. I'm not sure if we went every year and certainly once we got older we didn't, but it's something I hope to do each Christmas with my children...there's just something so magical about walking around in that setting surrounded by lights. You can't help, but feel in the Christmas mood after the visit.
This year, like last year, we made the trip with our friends, the Jacksons. It was a perfect evening...the weather was cool, not crazy bitter cold where you can't stand to be outside (like it's been lately), and it wasn't that crowded. Of course the traffic was insane, I guess we should have done our research ahead of time. Unfortunately for us there was a Conference Center concert which made the downtown traffic crazy. What should have taken 15-20 mins on the road, took us 1hr 10mins instead. After a long day that started with our annual family Christmas breakfast I thought maybe the kids would come undone with such a long drive, but we all made it and welcomed the long, but enjoyable walk to Temple Square.

spt - comfort
One of my favorite things during Christmas is to sit by the light of the tree and just think. I've done it as long as I can remember. As a child I would sneak up stairs at night to sit in front of the tree so I could be alone. For some reason I'm drawn to the lights. I can't really explain it other than the lights are very comforting and make me happy.
On this particular occasion, after the kids were in bed and the house was all quiet Adam found me and joined me in my thoughts. We sat reminiscing about our childhood Christmases and how we want to give that same magic to our three.
It's crazy when I was looking at this picture just how much the lights on the tree brighten up the room. I don't think Christmas would be the same without that glow in our home each night. I love it.
On a side note...since we are talking about comfort this week I could have easily shared how the pants I am wearing in this picture are the most comfortable pair of pants I own. So I guess I can say everything about this says comfort to me...the lights, Adam, clothes, and even the hot chocolate.

a holiday favorite part 2
One of my most favorite things about the holidays are the lights. The lights in your home that make everything seem warmer, the lights outside as you drive around the neighborhood keeping you feeling festive, and of course the lights downtown at Temple Square that make us ooh and ahh and remember the reason for the season.
This year we went with some friends in the neighborhood. They kids are pretty close friends so it was fun to watch them enjoy the lights together. You know how kids are, running around saying things like, "you have to see this, come on!". They even asked me to take pictures of them while we were walking around. It will be nice when they can bring their own cameras along and take their own shots (did I mention Bella and Tess both want a camera for Christmas...love that).
[for all you word lovers out there. This was one of the many lunch sack lanterns they had all lined up. I loved the way they looked and think I will make some for our home. Add that to my list.]

Megan saw the Christus from the window and wouldn't quite bugging me until we went inside and saw it in person. She is relentless. I hope this isn't bad to share, but I thought it was funny. When Megan saw the statue of Christ she leaned over to me in a whisper and asked, "Why is Jesus' showing his boob?" It took me a while to recover after that one, but quickly explain boys and girls are different. I guess it gets confusing having all sisters sometimes.
It was the most perfect night. No, there was no snow on the ground, but we weren't freeze either. I've done below zero temps before and would take this any day. It was so nice outside after walking around for a while Megan even took off her coat. Crazy.
I really do love that visiting the temple grounds has become apart of our holiday tradition. I'm evening hoping if we have time we will do it again before the year is through.
